Having some fun with the cowrig from last year.  Still needs to be rendered and composited.  Camera movement is imported from footage I filmed and tracked earlier.

A few months ago I decided to sharpen my webdesign skills by creating another personal project.  The idea was to bring a new community website to life for Blender, the open-source modeling software.  I managed to nail the basic analysis, blueprinting, identity and a few mockups.  Programming is part of what I do for a living, and I prefer to spend my free time with more creative and audiovisual work.  So I skipped that part.

It’s not my best work, but I believe it came out pretty nice.

Belgium offers some great Drum&Bass events.  One of them is Stealth Bombers, dropping the bass for 6 years now.  The next event takes place at 16th October.  And guess  what, I happened to be lucky enough having being asked at Savant Media to create the video for the commercial. Yay!

The styleguide, created by Lance Peersman

The graphic design had already been taken care of by a colleague of mine, Lance Peersman.  He used simple and abstract forms combined with a well-defined color palette.  The high-chroma light-blue typography is placed on a black background for extra legibility.  It is sheared at the angle of the Stealth Bombers logo to emphasize the relation between the event and the data.

DJs Tito and Echo Virus took great care of the audio and created the track a few weeks in advance.

I started out creating the abstract black geometry in 3D and using it as the base for the scene.  The camera would be flying through this scene following stealth bombers flying to their mission, dropping the base.  The rest is history.

There’s a dedicated IRC channel for these kinds of contests (#smc on freenode.org).  A channel bot is used for topics, timing and uploading the results.  The uploaded pictures are automatically added to a generated poll on www.blenderartists.org

The following renders are the result of 2 sessions of 20 minutes of modeling.
